Well, isn't that nice... suggesting not to give a tulip about getting job done and just send invoices - at SKA Towers that would get you canned like a tunaOriginally posted by Mich the Tester View PostI just said ‘**** that for a game of soldiers; go freelance, send a monthly invoice and stop giving a tulip’.

Leave NL alone. I for one love it when he leaves his microphone when stepping into his office!
PS : NL - Never back down, just soak it up and tell em to F-Off, it worked for Maggie!!!

Yar, like I read the location of everyone I post to... NOT.. I ****ed up. It happens. I still sleep well. Thanks for your input thought. Appreciated.Originally posted by DaveB View PostYou are developing something of a track record for talking first and thinking later. If you'd checked Mitch's location you'd have seen it said NL.
I guess I could argue the difference between not giving him notice 1 month before the end of his contract and 'sacking' him to try and save a bit of face but it will just a bun fight I can't win so won't bother. I got it wrong, was fair assumption. Thats life. LOLLast edited by northernladuk; 29 April 2010, 16:00.

He has no come-back on this. His contract ends and either he goes or they offer him a new contract. The employer can offer maximum three temporary contracts and then must either dump him or give a permanent contract. In practice this means many companies employ someone for one year three times then dump them. It also means that people apply for jobs toward the end of each one year contract and then either leave or demand a higher salary, thus pushing up costs for the business.Originally posted by northernladuk View PostOuch!!! LOL well thats a totally different kettle of fish then. Is that the same as these perm contracts some companies are using here nowadays?
Still... surely they can be held responsible to some extent surely? He could throw a fit and try for some form of compensation. The company had a responsibility to make sure he was capable before giving him the job surely?
Of course, this also means that those people with a little self confidence, or those who have experienced this and become cynical, just say fook that for a game of soldiers and become freelancers, whereupon the very same businesses moan about high rates and disloyalty and so on.

I am almost certain you cannot be sacked for 'not performing' in a job and especially within a month so would question the validity of your story. For a permie to be sacked for doing a bad job they have to go through performance appraisals and whole raft of process for the company to be able to sack them without reprisal for unfair dismissal.
If they promoted him and then sacked him in a month I would be laughing by bloody tits off as I drive round to me solicitor to start proceedings against them.
Sorry but there is a definate smell of bulltulip round here. You bored today?

Was promoted a month ago, is now dumped for ‘not performing’ in a job he’d never done before. Poor fellow; nice guy and v. intelligent. Have given him a business card and advised him to go freelance; no more emotions or bulltulip, just monthly invoices. NL market’s picking up too. Will call him again at weekend.

This is where contracting changes the equation. The permies get emotionally attached to work and colleagues, and are easily manipulated with the fear of losing their job. As a contractor I don’t care if you want to insult me, treat me like a doggydoo or talk down to me. Just bear in mind that all the time you choose to spend doing that, I charge a pound a minute to ignore you.Originally posted by original PM View PostI always love the old 'We just sacked you but lets be friends' load of bollocks
