The thing I can't get my head around about racism is that we are all descendents of the same species of ape and it's evolution that's divided us over distance and time.
Yet evolution is also what makes us greater than the other animals, and it's also what causes us to feel so different about each other that sometimes it manifests as hate.
It's a shame we can't trace out family tree far enough back to prove we are all one big family. Even the happiest families fall out sometimes.
So brothers and sisters, can you lend me a tenner!?
Got accused of being racist not long ago actually. It was at a party and I was reminiscing with a couple about how un-pc my old public school was. In the geography room, there was a map of the world with the UK slap bang in the middle & over the English Channel someone had written "the w**gs start here". That map was on that wall the whole 5 years I was there. Another one was a chemistry teacher who used to do an experiment which involved lighting a black pellet which proceeded to expand into a huge sausage shape and get longer and longer. No prizes for guessing what he likened that to; and yes, he did use the N word. Anyhow, my conversation got eavesdropped by someone who kicked up a massive stink and a confrontation ensued and I wound up digging myself into a big hole - because noone seemed willing to believe that I was merely recanting something I'd experienced. I sometimes get the impression some people are just waiting to jump down your throat and accuse you of being racist these days before they even know what the facts are. For the record, I'm glad things have moved on and this sort of thing isn't tolerated any more.
