    I remember them once telling me I hadn't sent my return when I knew I had, I remembered posting it. I found it months later behind the old oil heater in the garage, there is just no dishonesty these bastards won't resort to.

    That is exactly what I did with my first frank-less envelope! I'm glad it's not just me.

    They cashed my cheque anyway. The VAT-man must have seen sense and, if there was a 40p postal charge, paid it to get at the juicy several-grand cheque inside. So just phone up if it gets to a few days before your deadline and they haven't cashed it.
