I threw my VAT return into a post box without a stamp. I'd forgotten you need one these days.

I would be surprised if they did anything. Is it not the case that all returns must be online before too long hence they only have to worry about people not putting stamps on the envelopes for a short period.

They cashed my cheque anyway. The VAT-man must have seen sense and, if there was a 40p postal charge, paid it to get at the juicy several-grand cheque inside. So just phone up if it gets to a few days before your deadline and they haven't cashed it.
