Always sad to see the bastards successfully grind somebody down, but if your health and sanity were at risk then you did the sensible thing. May your next contract be a more pleasant one, and enjoy whatever benchtime you get.

Keep working if the work's there... build up some funds. Plus, by the time you've helped them ease in a permie, you'll have been there maybe 3 months and it won't look very short on your CV for future insurance sector work... when asked you simply say "I sorted out several serious problems and got it to the state they felt comfortable to use a permie longer-term".
