Good grief I wouldn't spend more than about 4 grand on a new "second hand" car.
Replaced my 18 year old Nissan with a shiny new 10 year old Opel, 3.5 grand.
About right in my opinion.
..and then spend the money I save on a Chet Atkins special issue Gibson.
Priorities ...priorities
The guitarist in our band recently bought a 25 year old Golf...that's what I call getting your priorites right. At least his wife & kids don't have to get round on the bus any more.

That's why I drive a HyundaiOriginally posted by sasguru View PostSensible man.
There are 2 types of people in the world, brand-victims and the clever, well adjusted.
Lots of people mock, but it's done 55000 very inexpensive miles and still has 2 years warranty left on it.

The redeeming factor in my case, so I'll claim, is that I own a 1992 and a 1998 Buell motorcyclesOriginally posted by sasguru View PostSensible man.

That will explain why people pay a large premium for it.
HTH
Apparently the new Mondeo is almost as good, and if you consider the price differential it's better
What Car? says5 out of 5 stars
Family cars don't come any better than this. It's great to drive, smooth and comfortable to travel in, and has loads of space.Last edited by Bagpuss; 2 June 2009, 19:26.

I got a promotion ages ago when I was a permie - the boss said "congratulations - you can have a BMW" - he was stunned when I turned down a bog standard weedy 318 (complete with concrete seats, offset pedals and three foot diameter steering wheel) in favour of a 2.8 V6 Sierra XR4x4. I'm sure I made the right choice - but times certainly change - that Sierra had slightly less BHP than my current diesel Mondeo and was about twice as thirsty.Originally posted by TriggerHippy View PostI can remember some years back, arriving on the first day of the new contract and meeting the IT Director for the first time. My initial impression of him was not that great - crusty and completely lacking any personality.
This impression was confirmed when, after telling the group a favorite BMW joke about the difference between elephants and BMW's was that elephants have external arseholes, the only reaction I got was a silent glower.
It wasn't until lunchtime, when this same director headed over and climbed into a 735 Csi, that the penny dropped ......

Is it the pick of the engine range? Almost, but we're still enamoured with the incredible 320d. That engine delivers 175bhp, sprints 62mph in less than eight seconds and hits 142mph while still knocking on the door of 60mpg.
After a hefty rate cut I've just tried to sell my 07 plate back to the dealer. To say the salesman was disinterested would be an understatement since his head didn't even turn in my direction when he told me he "wasn't buying atm". I've bought 3 cars from these c unts over the last 4 years but that's the last bit of business they'll get from me. I hate people who are just plain rude
Hope the ******* showroom burns down.

Ford (mondeo - more exclusive than a 3 series) mainly but mrs psb has a vauxhall - my other cars are an AMC and a Chevrolet (an old one - not the rebadge Daewoo one)Originally posted by fckvwls View PostVauxhall driver?

I've done flash cars too, but these days I stick with ordinary (Ford Mondeo in my case) as I don't care about brand "equity". I don't see the point in paying the higher purchase, tyre, service and insurance costs any more. My Mondeo is ideal for my needs, handles well, plenty of power to overtake, comfortable for driving large distances and returns loads of MPG.Originally posted by Fred Bloggs View PostI used to have BMW's, Audi's etc... Now I don't waste so much money on a badge. I drive a Skoda. Great car and they don't get stolen.
