One on Mac OSX Hints today: Script to track stolen Macs. Even if you're not running a Mac it should give you some ideas.

Sometimes you need a Mac - it's better at some things. It's not a generic PC.

If she's a designer or artist, or in media or music, then Mac is where it's at.

If she's studying accounting then yes, a £399 Dell will do.
Yeah and if she's studying Biology or English or nearly any other course, and needs Word Processing, maybe Spreadsheet, Acrobat Reader, and of course the Net, then any one will do too.

I hated macs until given one to use as a permie; my next purchase will be one.

As has been mentioned I'd wait until she's registered as apple's student discount is pretty good; also in the next month it's believed apple *may* be updating both the macbook and macbook pro.

    "were", "sandals".

Loath as I am to disrupt the "C64-versus-Spectrum" style of bickering into which this thread has descended, might I suggest that people either get back on topic or STFU?

Edit: that comment wasn't directed at you in particular, blacjac.

Superficial I know, but these things are important when you're a student.
