Yes it's simply that my previous insurance covered me for personal and business travel for the year, I was hoping to find something similar for ease. This is not about charging personal insurance as a business expense or mixing business and personal elements of the same trip.Last edited by CatOnMat; 22 February 2025, 14:30.

Why do you mention personal as well as business? You mean so you've got a single policy for the year regardless of if it's a personal or a business trip? Or are you expecting to travel away to do business for a few days and then stay for a few personal days?
Will your client not cover your business insurances? If you are outside IR35 I can hear everyone screaming 'Hell no, you are a business' etc but last time I did a lot of international travel for a client they covered the insurance including sub contractors and LTD company contractors. Although we are contractors and they are clients their insurance covered people doing business on their behalf. We didn't need our own insurance for business. We had to pay for all the travel and invoice it back but we were assured business travel was covered. I asked QDOS about this at the time and they said it wasn't an IR35 issue as it's the same for everyone doing work on behalf of the company and it was them reducing their risk profile. Bit like H&S and privacy policy. They also had rules about certain length flights being business class only to avoid DVT issues. Nothing to do with being treated like a permie.
Staying for business then extending for personal is a tricky area. I get very anxious when insurance is involved so I'd be doing everything I can to check it's right. There is something in personal insurances that they cover for travel from uk to destination and ending in UK. I'd be getting some detailed advice on what they cover when it comes to the last couple of days once you've done your work as technically it didn't start and end in the UK. Gonna be a tough one to sort out but you'd think plenty of people do it so should be solutions around.

That seems steep…Originally posted by CatOnMat View PostHi all - apologies in advance if this has been mentioned before and my forum search engine skills are just not up to the task...
Has anyone got any recommendations for decent travel insurance which ideally would cover business as well as personal travel? I used to use QDOS Contractor who were fine until recently, however they have now said that they removed travel insurance from their range of policies last year so I need to find a suitable alternative as my policy has just expired.
Going on the comparison sites seems to produce extremely expensive quotes when adding in business element (£1-2k+ more than just personal) so any suggestions welcome.
Thanks in advance!
I've got an annual policy just for the business travel and while it was more expensive than a personal policy for me it wasn't 1-2K more
Mine was with Allianz

Yes I may well go down that route (and just find personal cover only on comp websites) however I have just taken on a new contract which is likely to require multiple trips at short notice so was hoping for something similar to what I had previously where I was covered for the year without the hassle of doing each trip at a time, and to be honest at a more reasonable rate than what I have found so far.Originally posted by WTFH View PostIf most of your travel is personal, take a look at some of the personal bank accounts that include it in their package. Then when you are doing the (occasional) business trip, the travel insurance you are taking out is a business expense and you add it on when booking your flights.
