Episode 7779 was scheduled to be broadcast on 8 June 2022, as part of Series 85, but was pulled from the broadcast prior to broadcast due to reasons beyond Channel 4's control. It was replaced by a repeat of the final of Championship of Champions XV.

Steven Etherington played an unknown contestant and won by an unknown margin. The Dictionary Corner guest was Tanni Grey-Thompson, who also stood in as lexicographer while Susie Dent was self-isolating.

A mystery close to home

Reddit has been asking about the Countdown episode from 08/06/22 that was mysteriously pulled and a three year old episode shown instead.

Why was it pulled? Was a contestant arrested on leaving the studio or did one have a meltdown after getting a zero score?

Will we ever know?
