Donald actually called me up a few minutes after I posted that. Wanted my advice.
He will join in a few months, once they have scaled it, the site will eventually get 50-100 million users. Twitter were idiots chucking him out, it's fairly easy to set these things up now and they are losing tens of millions of users each time it happens. Older people with disposable income.

He launched his own platform now anyway. "From the desk of Donald Trump"... you can see his posts (nobody else's) and like them. I think those are the only options so as social networks go it's a bit limited.

He had 25 million followers on youthful Instagram which they also locked him from. You can still see his posts though.

Next 6 months are going to be tricky for FB. Lot of issues with advertising not being as effective anymore, other platforms gaining on them.
They want to be able to pull out a "oh we had to let him back on" card if they have to.
If he 'officially' joins gab in 6 months, both FB and Twitter will feel that.
