Sorry not being clear, the check is not usable for many purposes. So if you have one for working with children the same check cannot be used for example doing vaccinations or running youth groups. Were I designing it you would have roles and the DBS would be valid for multiple roles, if you have one it can be shared with multiple organisations as you described.

Hmm, looking online they claim £23 even for volunteers though you might have been required to get an enhanced DBS which costs more (DBS check: application process for volunteers - GOV.UK)

However my wife definitely got one done for about £3 for a volunteer... maybe some special case or maybe the 'employer' can do them cheaper. The time is a bigger concern, my current client's client insists we all have them and like all government IT, it's tedious
