At home, we have the windows ajar. Locked though, so you wierdos can piss off.
In your case it would take a hell of a lot more of a serious nutcase than a mere weirdo...

I think a window slightly open all year around and frequent airing of the room is good common practice by civilised people.
Also having a bright well lit room.

Except when you are in corporate hell and everything is closed for cost saving purposes, heat to minimum. And windows? They remind people that there could be a life outside work so to hell with those.

Same - sleep with the bedroom window open year round. Feel all the better for it in the morning. Nothing to do with waking up a 08:30am.

Although it's probably a good idea, I used to hate it. I recall doing a project at a bank and we shared the office with a load of onsite IBM'ers, they used to come in after us, unpack their stuff, open the windows and then bugger off to breakfast regardless of what the weather was like. It's happened in nearly everywhere I've worked here and Frau D. does it too, every morning all the windows are opened to allow air to blow through...
Why didn't you put your beach towels on their chairs before they arrived?

Without ventilating rooms you end up breathing mould spores and other unpleasant things. Mrs V opens the windows fully every morning to let my stale bottom burps escape the bedroom.
