I've had time to look at this thread and Rocketbooks - it's a whole new world to me!

I'm having problems with note taking while WFH, it's too difficult to take notes digitally if you are using your laptop for Zoom/Teams meetings and your iPad as a second monitor.

I'll try the Office Lens option first to see if it works.

They also need to have lots more pages - I can do 20 A5 pages (I don't like A4 notebooks) in one meeting as I will write down pretty much everything in case it comes in useful later.

I don't necessarily have time mid-meeting to scan and clean a page (definitely not the microwave method!) and keep going.

Serious question

What sort of lifespan can I expect out of a RocketBook? (6 months/12months/Maybe more?)
I take a lot of notes at project meetings and site meetings.
If I am doing a site strategy there can be over 50 pages of notes depending on the size and georgraphy of the site.
I can see that there might be some value in at least trying one but at £60+ for starters, well, I would like some return on the investment!

They provide free downloadable PDF's of the pages so you can print your own and bind them yourself, no need to buy another Rocketbook notebook if you already have one.

Thanks that's useful & I did not know they did that - but they would not be the reusable pages which I want to permanently bind

Binding rings are quick and simple. You need to protect the cover holes with inserts (punched I guess). Have a look at this video YouTube - it's amateurish but the end result is basically what you might want.

As for sitting flat, coptic stitch will allow that. It takes a little longer but it's simple and the results are satisfying. My first results weren't particularly good until I found a video by a proper bookbinder - have a look at this. YouTube

My reason for getting the Rocketbook was partly the enviro consideration of reusing, is that a false economy when the RB is made of plastic & paper is a lot more recyclable - I don't know. But mainly it was for digitising my notes / day book / meeting minutes and on that score its good.

So I really like the rocket book, the pad itself is well made & stands up to being on a building site, chucked at people & in a laptop bag.

What makes it work is the simplicity & ease of the app, not had any issues the scans are clear & sent to single or multiple locations (email, one drive etc) with a couple of clicks.

Is it any better that a paper pad & other apps possibly not, I have not tried them, but this was recommended to me I gave it a go & it works!

Downsides - its American sized paper - only relevant if getting a cover/portfolio. For me I need more pages (hence this thread)

Yeah, but... proprietary paper + specialist pens versus any paper and any pen + Office Lens?

I clearly don't get it, but I do tend more toward the old fashioned and cheap.

No paper, completely reusable. In theory, it will eventually pay for itself if you compare the cost over time.

Just to hijack (I can't answer your question, sorry) but what do you think of the Rocketbook? I am tempted because I write so many pages and pages of notes at work but have always been reticent to 'go digital'.

I was thinking of buying another & combing the two to create a larger version.

Making the covers is not an issue as I have many options for that.

But my question is how best to bind it, I want to keep the option of being able to fold it back on itself, so spiral binding works but I don't want to buy 50 odd spirals and only ever use 1, I have seen these single binding rings & these triple rings they could be an option. but spiral & binding rings may not be the prettiest solution & wanted to see if you knew of any other method?
