Future funding and the career aims of the author(s). At a guess.Originally posted by woohoo View PostWe could just educate people to look at the sources of their news and evaluate for themselves.
I remember studying for a degree and a person tried to quote the Sun in a paper as evidence for their argument. He wasn't the only one not sure why quoting the Sun was not evidence of a truth or fact.
It had to be explained to him in slow words that peer reviewed evidence is better than the Sun. Though to be fair, I imagine these days I would even question academic papers, their sources and goals.

In sorta related news, I'm amazed at how these guys managed to get Google search for "best toilet paper in the world" to show the Pakistani flag in all the top links on Google in 5 days. You should hire them atW!
Pulwama attack: Google searches 'hijacked' to link Pakistan flag to toilet paper - BBC News
Oh hang on, it was fake news according to Google:
Pakistan flag: No evidence our images showed Pakistan flag for toilet paper: Google

What has got into this generation of politicians?I'm agreeing with the nutjobs! Must be my libertarian left streak.Originally posted by Jog On View PostWho decides what is true and what is fake?
The cat is out of the bag with fake news and to seek to censor it is to establish some of the apparatus of a police state.
The best that society can do, and even this is a stretch, is to attempt to get transparency on funding. If you are going to pay for adverts or news, then there is a money trail. Even this is probably doomed to end up in some offshore trust rabbit hole.
So we need to recognise there is a problem, but not all problems should be solved.

What has got into this generation of politicians?
So, to avoid the slippery slope, do we just allow lies to be presented as facts?
