Good motorway connections, rail connections could be better and close to Heathrow plus on the Thames.

SE of brum is pretty central, or if you prefer real country, NW of edinburgh if you don't mind longer travel (unless your gig's in god's country).
Depends if you're travelling by road, rail or air, really
city centres cost more, and aren't so close to the fun stuff you want
