It's all gone pretty well at chez IJNTTI. Our strategy is conflict avoidance. The step-daughters were as needy as ever. One managed to leave the fridge door open every night of her visit yet we didn't say a word because she'd have had a meltdown and (if history is anything to go by) accused us of bullying her and ruining Christmas. There were the usual dramas on the day they (reluctantly) left. But compared to the experiences of some on here, all went swimmingly.

If only it were that simple.

I dislike my wife's brother and family and the feeling is returned with bells on but there are social occasions such as Christmas where relatives are going to get together.

Skint's spouse: why can't you ever say something nice about my family for once?
Skint: OK. "Your in-laws are much nicer than mine."

MIL's dementia is getting a lot worse and she's become more frail and lot more stroppy. So, the biggest fights were with her (she got violent with two of her daughters). And then the daughters (my wife and her two older sisters) arguing over who was arguing with mother the most.
Meanwhile, I kept my head down.

So the bottle was safe? Good to know.

I had man-flu the last week, so I sympathise.

This year was going well (both daughters got on fine, good time opening presents, etc). Then they sodded off to their mother's and my partner's kids came round. More violence (fists this time) and calling each other "twat" all day, and laying into their mother like she was the worst person in history. Afterwards she told me she seriously thought about topping herself it was so awful.

Add in a bout of man-flu and all-in-all it was about as tulip as last year.

Wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy to be honest. i.e. An elderly parent whos being difficult/lost their way a bit.

Its an impossible task trying to balance things with your own family. In my case, its even worse because of wifes own health issues.

Let alone looking after yourself too and trying to work too.
