I'm tempted by the new BMW X1. It seems to tick a lot of boxes. Not the cheapest by any means but felt far more solid than that Qashqai.

Tiguan just doesn't do it for me. Looks too much like a bulldog Golf.

The new model BMW X1 is a fine car and much improved.
Just don't buy the previous models (pre 2015), which are really crap

Get an X-drive and you're set for anything.
May consider that myself when I come to replace the MErc, as my back is beginning to give me gyp and I think I need a more high riding car.

Good move on the Evoque. Crap impractical car, more style over substance.
Jag-LandRover are no worse than Audi for reliability issues i.e. both are pretty bad.
But Mercedes are very good quality wise (they learned their lesson from the early noughties well).
BMW are OK.

There are a few new generation SUVs coming or arrived.
Seat Ateca would be better than Qashqai I would think. Or wait for the Alfa SUV coming next year

Yes I've read that the RRs are very unreliable. I've decided against the Evoque for that reason and a host of other reasons.

Macan is far too expensive for a family car. £50k for a reasonable 2nd hand one.

Realistically it's down to the Qashqai or X1 now. I quite like the X1 (the new shape) and it can be had brand new at £33k, with decent finance offers out there too.

The Qashqai is the fallback, safe, cheap option. It's a very good all round car but frankly just a bit boring.

I was given a Qashqai as a courtesy car when my 350z was in for a service. Comfy enough, quite roomy but I can't say I did much detailed evaluation as, let's face it, they should have given me a 370z or GT-R if the dealership was trying to lure me into an upgrade. My dad liked it when I picked him for a burn around town to kill time as he could get in and out easily with his bad back.

EDIT: My best mate has a Discovery - loves it. Great for getting the kids in and out, loads of boot space for kids tat and shopping.

Qashqai is a way overpriced Renault. Get a Tiguan. Plenty of change from £33k for a better car.

She gets the pick of Jaguar / Land rover every 6 months while hubby (senior designer) drives his mk2 Ford Escort ..

When it was launched, the celeb promoting it was Pish Spice, or Mrs Beckham if you prefer. Nuff said.

She had quite a big hand in designing it, which depending on you point of view, might be an even bigger "nuff said".

The present mrs BDI has one. I like it. Observations:
1. The boot isn't too big so she can't buy too much tulip.
2. There is no manual handbreak lever to get in the way of those romantic Gillian Taylforth moments.
3. The wing mirrors are too big and can hide a bus that's only 50 yards away.
4. It's got a load of parking sensors so reversing isn't an issue (also see previous comment about bin lid sized wing mirrors which do have uses other than obscuring oncoming buses at junctions)

The one big thing is that if the Land Rover dealership folk are like the Jaguar dealership ones, they'll fleece you for whatever money you saved. Get the Macan.

Seem a bit pricey for a wife's car: £30k for a low mileage one, less than 2 years old and with the extra features (TD4 or Dynamic models).

Anyone got one of these so as to offer a personal opinion?

Or best to get on lease?
