Class also determines who plays in Australia, Scotland, Ireland and South Africa. Right about Wales (no middle clas people live there anyway) , and NZ. I would imagine that the Argie rugby players are all middle class.
Maybe right about SA but absolute twaddle about Australia (Ive played club rugger in Aus, fecking wonkers! ).
However if you were to say class was a cricket then in Australia then you would be right. Then again, they only have one class there, the criminal class
League, at any level, used to be the most boring "organised" team sport on the planet, more like mud-wrestling than a ball-game, then one day (somewhere around 1974, I think), the Aussies showed the English how to play the game, since then, League has actually become a watchable sport, and teams have adopted modern sporting concepts, like fitness and tactics. Before then, it was a waste of time - the most entertaining bit was listening to Eddie Wareing see how many times he could get the phrase "it's an up'n'under" into his commentary.
Originally League was played to the same rules as Union, but the rules gradually changed to try and improve the spectacle to attract paying spectators. Union has also changed its rules over the years, for much the same reason.
The thing is when people say Union is better, they mean International level. Anybody watching Union at club level, no its the most boring sh***te going. The trouble is most RU players are bad ....and I mean bad.
No question Rugby Union, world cup or 6 Nations is unbeatable, but if you want decent Rugby at club level, then you have to go and see Rugby League.
Girls...union is only a class game in this country (god bless the classes! ).
Most other places union is played by normal people
Mailman

So the fact that a fatty can play Union at a semi decent level makes it a better game?
Yes simpy because the game is accessable to a wider (pardon the pun) range of people.
You dont have to be a bean pole on coke like you do for poofball or a meathead mate of muscle to play league
I'm still trying to get my head round that one.
I dare say this isnt the first time this has happened eh
League as a spectacle is everything Union wants to be. Granted it has never made it's mark internationally in the same way Union has but that's more to do with the fact that it's just too tough a game for the vast majority of the population.
HHAHAHAHAHAAA...yeah...its too tough a game
Look a free flowing rugby game and a free flowing league game are just as exciting as each other. There are times when Id rather there were 13 rugger players on a field and then there are times when I want to see real man scrums and rucking, that you dont get in league.
However both these games are a gazillion times more exciting than poofball.
BUT we do have one thing to thank poofball for...if there was no poofball then the scum that follows this game would be spreading their terrorism and racism to league and union!
