I'd laugh if it wasn't so true.
Yeah me too....but you know how it works....induce mass panic, front page headlines, BBC news reports, then voila, good old Government step in with a proposal to look after us all.

Of course, it will be taxed, with each "Netizen" having a bio-passport to "log in" to the system. (Which is sold on the basis that anonynimity is the "Criminals Biggest Weapon" and that knowing who logs in is a "Good Thing")

Pass a Bill, make it law, and the ISP's are forced to follow, and voila....Mr Blair and his cronies can get an audit trail of anyone who logs in and where they go.

    Be afraid...be very afraid....

..and if I wasn't so cynical, I'd say that TBL was paid to make his announcement, to further justify a governmental response at a later date...

FFS....how the hell has it come to this ?

    Missing the Point

    Guys (and Gals),

I think we are missing the point here.

The British developer of the world wide web says he is worried about the way it could be used to spread misinformation and "undemocratic forces".

So, don't be too suprised, if the next item on the "War on Terror" is the State Control of the Internet, to ensure it is a safe place for Netizens to visit.

Expect more media stories about "99% of Online Content is Filth", "Which Paedo is talking to your Kids today on MSN ?", "How The Net Cost My Son His Life (Suicide sites)" etc, etc, etc.....

inducing mass hysteria in the yummy mummy 4x4 Gas Guzzling set, until...hey presto...John Reid steps forward with ...

"GoverNet : Nice, warm, friendly Internet that will protect your identity and stop your kids being molested"

..and the world will rejoice, because they saw that state control of their lives to be a good thing, because, quite simply, there are too fekking stupid to look after their own lives.....

Look over your shoulder Sir T*t Head...they already have.

All he's after is some funding....I assume he needs an injection of cash as christmas is just round the corner.

Wonder if he shops on the web?

Still, if he can get research funding out of it good luck to him - it sure beats working.

If Tim Berners Lee and co. had got their way, that's all it would have been. There was a real opposition to any kind of commercialisation of the web. A big public library might have been useful, but never would have taken off like it did.

A bit like Gates and "why would anyone ever need more than 640k"!

Blitheringly vague. A Great job beckons for him in the new Tory party.

Hopefully the rest of us will continue the job of spreading anarchy and dissent.

    Can't imagine that.
