So pleased to see people on CUK using names that suitably scorn our leaders. But what about Corbyn?when Gormless Gordon succeeded Phony Tony
Germy Cockbum I reckon.

There is a stench coming from Westminster - it is the hypocrisy of the Labour party calling for an election - just like they provided when Gormless Gordon succeeded Phony Tony

I don't see any need to. Just point to the previous regime.Originally posted by VillageContractor View PostWith Labour in chaos it could be a smart move for May, I doubt they will tho
As for the bit about leaving the EU: the Tories gave them the choice so the Tories should do the dirty work.

Totally agree with this, Blair made a mistake in going into Iraq without a UN mandate, but Saddam's days were numbered there would have been a messy civil war at some point.Originally posted by Mordac View PostI doubt the Iraqi death toll would have been very much lower had the war not happened. Saddam was pretty efficient in that area. Everything else you say, is of course, totally correct.
He should have stayed on the sidelines and sent in the "Nursing Corps" in the aftermath.

Interestingly, the muppet Farron has said the majority of the electorate must be listened to. I assume he means we should Brexit now

I wonder how Brexiters feel about the WTO. I mean that's an organisation of many countries which is used to create agreements which are bound by law and when broken the country in question can be fined.

What's to stop any of the existing parties saying "If we're elected, we'll ignore the referendum result, and not trigger article 50"? If they're elected they're following the democratic will and ignoring it at the same time. It's probably quantum.

I think the issue of Brexit is of such significance that a General election must be called. Not on the issue of weather we exit or not, as that has been decided, but on the different parties vision of what a post Brexit UK looks like. For example see Osborne already talking of relaxing the fiscal rules, this was not in the Tory manifesto. They has a manifesto pledge to balance the books by 2020, but now due to Brexit that's gone. What else will either be amended/cut/introduced all in the name of 'Brexit', none of which would have been put before the nation in a General Election.
The same applies to labour we can assume that a Corbyn led labour would have a very different vision for post Brexit UK than the Tories. Should the public not have a chance to decide which vision they want implemented.
The simple fact is that the basis on which the last election was contested has now been completely changed. Both parties should use the next 3 months to develop their post Brexit visions and negotiation priorities, and then put those to the people in a General election. After that the new govt can proceed with withdrawal knowing that it's vision and approach has the backing of the people.

Well they didn't do a very good job with Juncker seeing as he is a federalist and we were against him.Originally posted by SueEllen View PostWhen we mostly Labour and Tory MEPs who were in the same European group, they and British Civil Servants were very good at convincing the others to vote our way. At least I'm hoping you're aware.
I'm sure the EU voting system is great for those who want laws set by 28 countries but myself and millions of others don't. Hence leave. The remaining 27 can vote without interference.
