This is culture of a country.
Some countrys doesn't say hello to a stranger but are considere friendly people. You don't need to change just because other countries are using it...to pretend that you are friendly.

You Northern types may like being friendly. But I just want to pretend I have not seen anyone else. If I wanted to see people, I would have stayed in town.
