I actually hear that sentiment more from women than men, the 'sacred nature' of being able to create children.

Women are frequently a least partly defined by their role in the family. It is common to hear something like "mudskipper, mother of three, did xyz" as opposed to "Mr mudskipper, IT consultant, did xyz"
