Indeed. Clients of mine working in the industry ask about my support in the area of reliability. The ones that makes their assets near maintenance free will come out the winners. A opportunity as a ripe as a ripe thing with ripe bits on it just waiting to be picked.

Renewables is a massive growth area worldwide, so canny investment there could be a great shout even if the customers end up being outside the UK.

If you can improve on wind, wave and tidal technology you can sell that for a lot of money, and Scotland is pretty blessed when it comes to most sources of renewable energy other than solar, so it's a natural place to work in those areas.

Oil was always considered a bonus for a national savings fund.

Renewables in Scotland, supported in a large part by the entire UK population through the "Green Levy" that is placed on every energy bill.

Scotlands 5M population would not be able to fund that development on their own.

Scots don't claim to have invented distillation. They claim to have invented Scotch Whisky. The stuff that was around in the moonshine days was a far cry from what we call whisky, which legally has to be matured in oak for several years.

I can't recall if storing it in oak barrels was done deliberately for flavour initially, or they found out by happy accident that it made the likker less horrific

Take our London and the remainder if England is faltering indeed. You don't see the same disparity in Scotland.

How dare London get so much more Axis Title than the rest of us!

Of course it is. Scotland has chosen to base its economic growth on development. Look a renewables in Scotland, huge growth whilst England withdraws support.

Scotland has managed to achieve "record numbers of registered businesses in Scotland, increased productivity, growing value of international exports, and record employment", which I think is not wholly supported by the data, it has not registered much, if at all, in the GVA relative and certainly could not lead one to conclude that Scotland is "punching above its weight."

A statement would be something like "Scotland has the highest obesity rate in the UK", which might make you even happier with your answer. Except an independent Scotland would have no gold, no currency and no Barnett formula.
