    A hardware testing app.

You submerge your phone in water and the app tells you whether or not your hardware is waterproof.

Indeed not. That's why Google and Facebook already do it. But it's forbidden under EU laws (or something) so we don't see it on FB here. My understanding is in other nations, FB will not only try to detect faces in photos but will tell you who it thinks they are.

If I do make a million off it obviously you can download it and use it for free, for at least a year.

Radiator bleeding or gladiator apps are out. Ive also asked my accountant and he called me a dick-head, so its down to you lot to make me rich.

An app that turns your phone into a tricorder would get my money.

    Neutrino detection as standard.

I am afraid to break it to you but the idea that you can write a simple "app" and somehow make millions is completely bogus. It is myth. Any serious research into the subject will tell you that.

The average "app" makes it's creator around $600USD per year and take hundreds of hours to create. Do you really have it in you to sacrifice your evenings, your weekends and your holidays to build something that will make you 600 bucks? Are you prepared to give up your contract, remortgage your house and hire a team to work on an app for 6 months with no guarantee of success?

If you look at any of the really successful apps then you will realise that they are created by full-funded teams. Uber for example has received $8,000,000,000 of funding. 8 Billion dollars. Which is why the US is so successful in creating global technology firms whereas Europe and Asia are not.

Supercell ( creator of Clash of Clans, which took $1.7B last year ) had and I quote from their website

"By early 2012 we had five small teams working on new games, all for tablets and mobile. We knew that one of those games would have to be at least moderately successful for the company to have a future."

Which tells you a) That they were well funded and b) That they did not really know which would be successful.

The idea is worth nothing. It's all in the execution and funding.

    Here's some ideas.
    • A School parents evening booking app - arrange parents evenings the easy way
    • Hire My Tools - Think AirBnB for power tools and chainsaws. Allow people to borrow a power washer from their neighbours for a small fee.

Good products do not just appear. They take hours of sweat and toil to create.

A new German-based app wants to cut out the middleman in the sex-work trade by allowing customers to connect directly with escorts to arrange "paid dates."

The app is called "Ohlala," and it has been dubbed the "Uber for escorts" by TechCrunch.

Yes - but none that would be of any use to us on here.

I think an excuses app would be good. Comes up with plausible excuses when annoying relatives invite you for dinner etc.

I know why you want that - if you know your wife is 20ft away you can quickly close down your web browser.
