If colonial asset stripping were profitable, for a nation, we'd have been doing it a bit longer i think.

Well, not quite. Google says that the 'dissonance' is the stress caused by holing these conflicting views. Yet I rarely meet lefties who hold views such as you describe who are in any way stressed at the contradiction and inconsistency. In fact they don't even see the contradiction and inconsistency.
