    The waist seems a poor measurement of girth when men in particular seem to develop an overhang. Yet I never heard of your tummy being used - only chest and waist.

    Many people dont realise how fat they are as womens and mens are often vanity sized. Eg most size 34 waist mens jeans are now closer to a 36. I bet if most people cut the string to the size they thought they were it wouldnt meet.

    MF - I know you did not fold the piece of string in half. Either way it does not go round your waist...
