Not really its tough out there, but if you don't take a risk how are you supposed to achieve anything. I could either sit tight in a job that goes nowhere as I did with a previous company or when I did find a great job the department ended up being closed down.

So someones you hit the jackpot and you can get a great role and a great boss. Other times the only reason you are there is because of mis-management and someone has to do the work.

Strange isnt it, large financial institutions asking for financial experience.

Probably why I specialise contracting with banks given its been the basis of my whole career. This of course works in reverse when ive been tempted to try my hand at government contract or telecons etc.

I guess its a chicken and egg thing, need a bit of luck to get in or sell your transferable skills.

WGAS - Doohg - Why on earth would I be telling anyone my rate at RBS ? I certainly would never justify it to anyone.
As long as they are paying the rate you want and you are likely to get paid, it being RBS would mke zero difference to me. Contractors are 'just visiting', vast bulk of issues are not my concern.

I've been there just shy of a month now and I'm really enjoying it, the work's good as are the people. Enjoying the project(s) I'm part of. Wasn't sure what to expect with my first contract gig but its been good.
I've certainly recommended it to a few former colleagues who have been getting calls from agencies about similar roles albeit on different projects in the bank.

I must have known 15 people on the one project there on between 600 - 800. One mate on 800 never got a login to the ERP dev environment for 3 months. The consultancy (read fly by night co) charged him out at well over a grand a day.

I'm guessing City rates are still ~£500 on average?
What role are you considering? I work in the business change, PM, senior BA space. I took a rate cut for this job. £100 a day less than my freelance management consultant position with my last client. I figured earning something was better than earning nothing and I have a weeks notice period so can sod off if I get a better offer.

PM's/Change Managers seem to be getting £450 max, Senior BA (accountant) around £400. From what I can tell there is no variation between London and Edinburgh rates (guess that is something to do with the pool of available people). Bristol are getting around £50 less.

    Hope this helps

RBS - depend on the area / asset class. some areas are being closed down or sold off. Where possible Permie Eqty staff will be offered roles internally in other areas, this means that contracts will be cut. The rational is that "it saves a redundancy payout"

    I would treat with caution.
