Very easy by train though, especially if you get on at stockport.

Manchester? Are you having a laugh? No contracts here mate. There are several threads discussing the severe lack of contracts here.

Watch the 40mph at the end of Sheffield Parkway, it's 50 all the way, ie 65 in reality, the cameras are real, and I got the dreaded double flash, and the letter, 47mph in a 40....

    They let me off!!

They got me back later with a bus lane infarction though, 60 quid in the end because I argued the toss saying the road was dirty and I never saw the the markings. The pic they sent me showed pearly white arrows, photoshopping bastards!

Those are my only two driving infarctions in 35 years of points free driving. Not even a parking fine.

To get to Sheffield from Halifax takes a minimum of 1.5 hours at rush-hour due to the massive traffic on the M62 and M1. It can take a good hour to get to Leeds from here a grand total of 16 miles. Sheffield can be a real pig to get into and out of as well.
when having to go to Sheffield from down south it was a real struggle to work out the best way - plumped for the train in the end because all airports are roughly an hour away (there are four) but the combined flight/train was the same as getting the train all the way there and much cheaper - was a horrific journey on the way back, absolutely rammed!!

the only plus was the hotel I stayed at had smoking rooms!!!! was able to sit in my room and smoke and drink - was excellent!!

Datacentre at Tankersley (nice place, I used to visit it quite frequently) and they had at least 1 major office building in central Sheffield.

Do the Gnat West not have a presence in Sheffield too ? I had an interview there in about 1997 but it may have changed since then :-)

Barnsley officially I think (Tankersley) but Sheffield is close. It's the A61 I think from memory, went for interview there, spoilt my 100% record

I used the train from Leeds - 40 minutes but driving into Leeds in rush hour is a nightmare. The times I drove to Sheffield, I had set off early (about 7:00) and even then the queues on the M621 had started coming into Leeds.

Agree about the Woodhead pass. It is 100% certain that you will be stuck behind a lorry that cannot get above 20 mph on the inclines! If at all possible use the train to Manchester.

Sheffield to Leeds is actually quicker and cheaper by train if you go for a season ticket.

Traffic into Leeds is a Nightmare and parking is expensive as well.
