I know most client cos will try to force you taking 3 days off between Xmas and New Years. However, if your contract does not say anything about this, you can always work and get paid!

Do you not understand MOO? If you have this important clause in your contract, they don't have to give you any work. So they can say "we don't need you between these dates".

i have a slightly different dilema. I told client co i was not working the 3 working days between xmas and new year and caused a bit of a fiasco. They also thought they had the final say.....

sorry i'm closed for xmas.

My business will shutdown at the end of 22nd December, and will reopen on 4th January - not sure about the client site though.

Current ClientCo is small enough (~10 people) and everyone has known each other ages, everyone has a key and can come in when they want. For permies that means there is no enforced breaks on working days, for me I assume I could come in by myself whenever as long as I can prove I did actually do some work rather than eating turkey sandwiches and posting on CUK.

I have been aware since our headmaster told us - when aged 6 - that Xmas is a valid word for tedious reasons (but basically because of X being the initial for the Greek for Messiah, Xristos), but never seen it hyphenated. Given the 'X' is then not followed by the remaining letters, that implies X'mas is correct, and Xmas is wrong.
