Start with how much you are earning.
Don't take any personal abuse, bite back immediately. Feel free to report the exact conversation to someone senior, it's a permie response but they will hate that.
Work to rule - undertake each task requested to the best of your ability, don't consider showing any initiative outside this.
Spend all possible time looking for alternative roles.
I worked at phones aren't for you for a while (think management by screaming at people) in a truly grim office. Toughened me up a bit but I only left on my terms for something better.
2 months in the war chest - they would need to drag me out....
Trust me... I need the break. Start afresh. In any case, there's no going back.

How/why do you think opportunities in FS would be hampered? You'll still get a reference, right?

Excuse me, CM, but I'm sure you'll approve:

Benched contractors get a place on the bench.
Sorry - I've not been benched before so did not realise the privileges to which one is entitled when one is no longer in contract.

I could have enforced the substitution clause... but to be honest, I don't know anyone with the skillset needed for the work within the time I needed.

I have no regrets, and will not have any regrets. Even if the bridges have been burnt with RBS, I'm happy to walk away from the opportunity. The only regret I will have is if opportunities to work within the Financial Sector has been hampered as a result.

I'm about to lose my extension offer soon for requesting the market rate, rather than the slave labor wager the client.co thinks they can milk me for.. just made a new thread with a bit more detail, will update it with the result later in the week I guess.

    What he said.

I've turned down 3 extensions over the years, 1 because I was terminally bored, 1 because I was totally exhausted and needed a long holiday and one because they were total and utter morons and I would have shown up on the telly as an "enraged axe weilding Yorkshire man slaughters Leeds corporate HQ staff" news story the next Monday.

Regarding the OpenVMS... I doubt it. In the 3 months I was there, I never came across it.

Regarding the recruiter... nope... but bearing in mind what I've said about a couple of people in RBS, it would probably be for the best that the CUK forum wasn't mentioned. If you do apply for this role, drop me a PM and I will tell you my first name.
