Your employer is a clever and sensible person. He's realised that small independent consultancies are the engine of the UK economy. By encouraging you to spin off your own business and expand it, and to take advantage of the diversity of your local community, you will be able to serve his company better in the long run. Not only this, but your business will result in the training of the local workforce that is vital to maintaining Britain's position as a world player in the global technology services market. What's good for business is good for Britain.Originally posted by javacoder View PostHi,
I am currently permanent for a small software house in Slough. Myemployer recently said tht I had to become a contractor. Its a new government legislation or something. To be honest I was not really listening.
They said as a contractor I willget lots of tax breaks so I will be alot better off though they will pay me the same money. Which is great news - I cant wait.
My neighbour sugested this site - said I could lots of info on what stuff I can claim.
I sign on Friday so plse tell me wht I need to do.
Thx
DW
I don't know where you get the idea about tax breaks though. You'll have to pay the same amount of tax as any other business.
Anyway, congratulations. Welcome to the world of hard work, and effort and enterprise and responsible risk-taking. Things can only get better.

PM this guy - he'll be happy to helpOriginally posted by javacoder View PostTHanks for all the helpful replies - the rest of you arebjust jealous as I am younger and cleverer than you.
Did the deal today - I signed some stuff - but was a bit concerned as I had to fill in "company name". I asked and was told I had to "form a company". How do I go about this? I hope its not too much work - still those tax breaks will make it worthwhile.
THanlks again

I kinda caught onto that a while back.Originally posted by cojak View PostHE'S NOT REAL!

(Or if he is he'll soon realise that clever != smart....)
I'm hoping that by asking the bleeding obvious I can kick myself back into touch.
I'm hoping he would say that he has signed an unlimited contract length.

Have confirmed what he was talking about?
Going to make a wee prediction....first sign of trouble you'll be terminated, with no payout. You'll then try to get a contract in market that is about to go into hibernation. You'll up down the job center, and then end up working at Tescos.
Let us know how you go.

Obviously you are not going to listen to our recommendations... telling you how to go and form a company would be fruitless. The only thing I am going to say is do a search on this forum and look at the links on this website.Originally posted by javacoder View PostTHanks for all the helpful replies - the rest of you arebjust jealous as I am younger and cleverer than you.
