But then you have the problem of why they are hiring you over a local, sometimes it's difficult trying to work overseas, unless they can prove that no local talent can provide the same skillset as you they may have a difficult time hiring you.

thanks for replies, doesnt seem as simple as I thought, I had a look on jobserve and pretty much no contract work out there doing what I do, some contracts in Jersey City though. Its only for a year so I will look at the permy route my gf boss over there said he would see what he could do, she is working in the same sector as me so I should be able to get something. I could take a year out but I recon I would get bored on my own while she works.

Im going for a dump now.

I mean in the sense that we do contracts here - sign on for 6 months etc. That market doesn't really exist in any large numbers - I know cause I spent my last 6 months in NYC looking for it!

Short term consultancy type stuff yes, actual 6 month contracts, working for firms etc not much of it at all. In my 6 months looking I saw one. Maybe other fields are different - but in the networking areana definitly not.

!? There's tons of contract (call yourself a consultant) work in New York. I've been over a couple of times and fixed things up pretty easily. Or do you mean the 1706/1099 thing which is annoying like !R35?

    Probably harder for foreigners though.

    Liz of BritishAmericanTax.com says

"It (Ltd Company) allows you to do international trade, since many other countries have stiff rules about allowing a foreign worker to provide services and comparitivly relaxed rules about a company providing the exact same services. The US is one particular country where this is true.

What if you require a little more than sleeping, eating and existence?

    What about challenges?

Does that mean you can nip off to Canada for a weekend and come back and get a new visa waiver every three months?

Do some work from home coding and bingo no one would ever know right?

Do you mind giving up all your capital/income if you divorce? Do you object to not seeing any children ever again?

You need someone to sponsor you for a work visa, H1B IIRC. This will cost them a couple of grand though. You can only spend 90 days there on visa waiver before having to leave the country.
