Yes, for example I have a medical condition that UKSV are interested in and they affix aftercare requirements to my clearance. I don't think it affects transfers but in the early years of my career I could only get a two year clearance after a six month wait.

Agreed, there are several variables, not least that Ministry security teams have a habit of disregarding securty vetting done by commercial companies.

Put it this way, in a long and varied career I was cleared to work with defence suppliers and similar, signed the OSA in 1973 and have held SC since. I've also been vetted for SC at least 15 times at various companies and departments, including moving from (for example) a major defence supplier to the MOD.

There are no simple answers, sadly.

it depends on who the sponsor for your clearance is.
If it's your employer it might be harder. If, as seems more likely, it's your employer's client, then it should be straightforward.

If you're working for government departments I assume you'll be paid by an umbrella. I'm moving from perm to contracting too, I've calculated my risks and I have mitigations in place. Sometimes a contrarian approach pays off.

Regarding SC, I applied to move mine earlier this month and have been advised by my agent that it could take up to 6 weeks. It depends on the client though. Some will let you work earlier after a basic check. You may only get an escorted pass until your SC comes through. My client has quite a lot of paperwork to process and I need to have a medical too so they are generally slow I'm told.

SC clearance transfer

Hi,
i am working in perm job with consultancy firm and about to get a contract job to wok in SC job. but My employer is also moving me from next week to same govt dept but different project.
