Surely the client should want the prospect to at least appear to be interested in them? I know when I was managment, if the prospect hadn't bothered to find out anything about the company it was an immediate turn off - granted these were permanent positions I was interviewing people for, so not really the same situation.

I can believe it. However do you really want to be hired by a paranoid freak?

A sockie account may be of some use, but 1) it breaks what LI is about, 2) it would show you out as dishonest if discovered/suspected, and 3) I really CBA.

Interviewing is a two-way process. I always check out the client beforehand. If it bothers them then so be it.

Some interviewers hate this some love the fact you have looked it all depends.

Best way i have found to combat this is to have two profiles, one your professional one and another a moody name and a job title of recruitment specialist (one man band) with a load of phoney groups added and experience.

That way you can have a nosey without them being notified it is you and as a hiring manager would expect recruiters to look them up. Also you get to see their profile ad experience and can direct the interview that way and talk about a subject you both know a great deal about and strike a relationship up right there.

The private browsing in chrome mentioned earlier does not stop them being notified if you are logged in adn if you are not logged in then you wont see their full profile

Not sure why you think I am stressed so as to suggest this ?

I was just making a point of hopefully clarification to the OP and subsequent responses.

I consider it standard practise to check. Likewise I expect the interviewer to check the interviewee.

People get turned down for roles when their CVs and Linkedin give different views on experience or skillset.

No. Go in blind, don't use the professional tool to do what it was designed for. There is no point picking up on common ground you might have or using any knowledge you can glean to your advantage. Just be as ill informed as the next grunt and you'll do fine.
