I was encouraged by most people on here to not start contracting. I've now had 3 years of successful contract on more money than I've ever been on so I take everything on this forum with a pinch of salt.

How come you haven't learned how to use the search function then yet? Business phones have been done to death and the advice is always exactly the same.

Rely on your accountant, that's why you want one that knows what they're talking about rather than one who makes things up which 'feel' right to them but have no basis in HMRC's guidelines.

Rely on your accountant, that's why you have one (& common sense if possible) not a bunch of random armchair advisers/critics on here who, at times, are far too quick to pull the trigger on the uninitiated. They're generally a nice, knowledgeable bunch, but at times some of them show their teeth.

If my accountant gave me advice such as:

When I asked my accountant about putting a hone through my company, she said I could do it as long as I 'keep my personal calls to a minimum'.

which clearly contradicts the HMRC guidelines, I'd be firing them not relying on them. Each to their own, but having a business phone is one of the clearest things in the HMRC manuals, and the accountant is talking about having to keep personal calls to a minimum, in direct contradiction to the explicit HMRC rules

Three don't offer business contracts to one man bands, open an account with O2, you will pay slightly more than with three but you can have it completely in the company name so depends how big your bills are to say if its worth while

If by "one man bands" you mean Limited Company Contractors then yes they do.

I don't know what guidelines you are looking at but personal/business use mix is irrelevant. The provision of a single mobile phone to a director/employee is exempt from tax. It's that simple.

This. If the accountant doesn't get such basic things right as this, what else are they missing?
