Previously on "Finally a real country that will defend their fishermen!"
It seems you have a poor understanding of fishing.
The UK fishing quotas are mostly owned by private investors who sell them. Over half our quotas have been sold to foreign fishing vessels.
A number of UK fishing ports went down the pan when the quotas were sold, but the CFP is blamed for that.
The UK’s representative on fishing at the EU refused to take part, debate or vote, saying it was a waste of time. As such he wasted his democratic mandate, then used his waste as an explanation of why things didn’t go his way.
It's very poor form to come out demanding before getting down to actual negotiations. Barnier et al know that trade negotiations are just that negotiations and that if they want to fish in our waters they'll need to come to an agreement as we will with them for our boats to fish in their waters. Shouting orders and hinting that they'll burn our boats in French ports isn't a good way to negotiate anything because it just puts peoples backs up and will guarantee they won't get what they want. The EU needs to get real and stop pretending they can bully us
Seems in this case the EU want to have their cake and eat it
or our fish
or something

I understand that fisheries are a hot topic. Still don't get it how anyone in their right mind would let this which forms like 0.05% of GDP jeopardise other areas like financial services with 15%+ of GDP.
That figure would have been much higher, but for the theft/surrender of UK territorial waters in 1973. As for financial services, the EU have already legislated against London (by refusing ECB banking licenses to banks which only have token operations in the EU) but that may well backfire, with non-EU banks moving non-Euro settlement operations out of the EU, specifically to London, where the vast majority of that business already happens. Attempting to regulate a competitor out of business is standard EU tactics, but in this case they may well end up hurting their own financial centres more than London.

Fisheries more important to EU, which gives a tulip about "small" sectors, so Boris is only happy to leverage it in order to gain more concessions.

Andrew Neil made the same point to a bemused Tory drone on Politics Live last week... it was a glorious take-down.
Well done for acknowledging that the EU is a country. Some folks on here think it's still a trading block made up of independent nations.
And while we're at it, they can do one.
