Jacob Rees-Mogg describes May's Customs Union plan as cretinous

Nice comment in the Independent today:

There must always be room in political life for the wilfully eccentric Jacob Rees-Mogg. But that room needs to be heavily padded.

Prominent Brexiteer threatens to remove his wig in the event the UK staying in the Customs Union

Good, that will require 90% less politicians

The UK holds all the cards:

Except, not that anyone cares, but the EU's entire budget, Europol, CAP, all staff, regional development funds in 28 countries, everything, is limited to 1% of EU GDP by law.

The entire EU budget is not even 1/7th the size of the UK government's national budget.

The UK contributes less than 1% of it's national budget to European projects.

No one, other than shrill tabloid weirdos on one island off the coast of Europe, thinks the 0.1% of EU GDP that the UK contributes towards the EU is irreplaceable and makes the EU "Bankrupt".

I don't think we can, and I'm not sure we can strike our own trade deals either. We will of course continue to fund them, so it's a bit of a clustershag all round. What's the point of a bit of democracy when the unelected think they can just ignore it?

Well that is one option we could look at I suppose.

    Nice to have it though.

and that ladies and gentlemen is the end of the Brexit debate.

The UK will effectively be staying in the EU. I predicted a Swiss style deal, but in the end the UK will end up much closer to the EU than either Norway or Switzerland.

Love the comments .... JRM for PM Hilarious ... some muppets will vote for any idiot

Oh yes, they are likely raging mad that something that is not open for negotiation has been rejected by a protest group of unelected over-the-hill nobodies and that the planned transitional arrangements will actually take place.

Meanwhile, back on Planet Earth, it's a lovely day today, isn't it.

Brexiteers accept defeat on Customs Union

The government has suffered a triple-whammy of disappointments this week - defeat over an amendment in the House of Lords, a new Commons motion on the matter tabled by senior MPs and a rejection of the UK's Irish border proposals - which have made the issue live once more.

Pro-Leave sources told City A.M. that some "sensible" Brexiters were increasingly coming around to the idea, as long as it was positioned as a finite extension to the transition period.
