Regaining control of "our" borders

I just show them my (Irish) driving licence or PSC card, Ryanair insist on a passport though, ferries absolutley nothing. I'm frequently stopped at Dublin port though by the Garda, UK reg cars (two different ones), suspect they think I'm avoiding VRT...

FYI Those countries may not be part of the EU but they are part of the Schengen zone, when arriving form outside Schengen you will (or at least should) go through passport control

Since July last year, even from inside Schengen, at airports, there are passport checks. You may remember the fuss about long queues at Spanish airports.

Nope legally you have to let them all in.

The illegal ones who are blocked at the border because they have a criminal record can simply come in via Ireland.

In other words border control is a complete waste of time, even Switzerland and Iceland don't have one.

They have border control at Copenhagen airport for trains to Sweden over the bridge, because of the regufee crisis but honestly it's a pathetic attempt, ISTR manned to G4S employees stood next to a checken wire fence. Swedish for customs is 'Tull' BTW, amused my Jethro Tull fan mate....

I’ve gone the other way before. Drove from my home in Donegal, over the border to Derry, and took a flight to Dublin on my (non-EU) passport (left the EU one at home for some reason).

Got stopped at Dublin security and they threatened to put me back on a plane to Derry for not having the correct passport. They didn’t seem to understand my argument that I could then just get in my car in Derry and be back in Dublin in 3 hours with no passport control.

I think it is more that once you have had your 2 hour wait then we get the chance to say yes come in or no go away.

If having no control over the border means waiting for 2 hours to get through border control I wonder what it will mean if you do get control over your borders.

On a side note, Operation stack will probably run 24/365 with lorries parked around the entire M25 in two directions
