So if you do decide to join them tell them you were recommended by me Paxo65 <no personal details here - Mod>, and I think you might get a joining bonus too, although I am not sure about this last point.

Actually, this thread began in 2010 - Kai probably already has a bank account by now!

That sounds just like the pitch I got from someone trying to get me into one of those pyramid selling schemes years ago.
I said no to that one as well.

Great advice. From a first time poster. Who admits to avoiding paying UK taxes. Who gets paid for referrals. Who joined after HMRC started to take them apart.

    What could possibly go wrong?

The long and the short is that they are a "shop" for schemes. They place your business with "the most appropriate" scheme for your circumstances.

I don't think it takes a genius to work out that if the scheme concerned is challenged by Hector then the warranty is going to come under severe strain. Given that tax is personal, I can't see Hector having any sympathy with the "but they said I was covered if you investigated" line. The bottom line will be your's to cover whatever happens.

Lisa is right - ask them to explain it fully, in writing. All the QC opinion in the world won't matter when Hector comes calling. Aggressive avoidance covers a multitude of sins and it doesn't matter what a QC says or whether your own lawyer (as in my case when investigated) can prove that what you have been doing is legal. If Hector doesn't like it, you are going to have a mighty fight on your hands to avoid paying tax, penalties and interest on the total amount earned.

That leaves us with "80 - 85% returns" versus 73 - 75% through a limited company accompanied by a sound nights' sleep.

    You do the maths.

I'm assuming that its still to be filed under the "too good to be true" section and that a limited company is the way to go, but its interesting to speak with some other contractors who have now signed up with them after taking their own advice from local acocuntants.

If you enjoy sleeping at night, then don't join and pay your way, either through an umbrella or LTD company.

If you are the high risk gambling type and are willing to risk paying their "management" fee for X years then the full amount of Tax/NI/Penalties on top of that fee when HMRC finally catch up with you and close down the scheme - go for it!

i've been contacted by them too - i seem to remember someone telling me any umbrella company who insures you against future tax bills is screwed under the managed service company rules and that could leave you all to foot the bills... can anyone shed any light on this?

I was offered a similar scheme about 5 years ago, I looked into it and thought it was better to stay with a Limited company. The demons have returned...what should I do?

Have you actually read this thread before replying to it? If so what makes you unsure as to whether to use this scheme or stick with Ltd?
