They do seem to be having a bit of a 'mare.Originally posted by gadgetman View PostPrimarily just to vent my frustration I suppose.
These are just the latest incidents. I have been through the route of publicly naming/shaming and allowing amends to be made before but despite the words of appeasement the overall service never really improved. I'm just glad that I'm going to be rid of them soon.
The same accountants overlooked closing down myCo's PAYE scheme when I left the country. The first I knew about it was receiving a demand from HMRC in May for unpaid tax and NI.
They do seem to be sorting it out for me but it would be nice to get it out the way so I can close down myCo. The annual Companies House return is due next month and it looks like I am going to have to do it.

No public requests for ‘name and shame’ until my company is completely wound up!

Hi I'm looking for an accountant and want to avoid these people - would appreciate a PM if you can't publicly name and shame - many thanks!Originally posted by gadgetman View PostJeez, what am I paying these guys for?
Accountant has just sent me my PAYE return for 2008-09 and has made major errors in the figures (PAYE and tax figures way too low, incorrect dividend tax credits amount). If I have to point out such glaring errors then what am I paying them for?
I am actually closing the company and have already paid the agreed closure fee. They stated (in email thankfully) that my 2008-09 return would be included in the fees I’ve already paid for the year. To add insult to injury they now seem to have reneged on this and the return was accompanied by an invoice for a further £125 + VAT! Well they can whistle for that.
They issued a P60 based on the recommended/projected salary spreadsheet for the year and ignored what I’d actually paid (it was less due to time on the bench). I created a spreadsheet and supplied them with all of the “actual” figures again (they’d already had them prior to P60 creation) and have been waiting several months for a revised P60. Oh and in case you’re wondering, the original P60 figures are not what appear on my 08-09 return. GOK where they’ve got the figures as they are out by 90%.
Certainly don’t feel I’m getting a premium service from these jokers.

Okay just realised what they’ve done. They’ve used the PAYE and tax/NI figures for 09/10 (from April to date) in my 08/09 return. Great attention to detail guys.

I wasn't too impressed with my accountants either so I gave them the boot; I now do my own books and accounts, it's not that hard. I still have people I can go to for advice (particularly VAT) when I need it, which isn't that often.

I'd say it was par for the course myself. The impression I get is that the staff in these places are totally overloaded and in permanent fire fighting mode. And as a result there's probably a high turnover and attention to detail suffers it seems.
