    WHS. And there are many countries with mutual tax treaties to pick up the odd miscreant; governments don't seem to like tax evaders for some reason and will jail you on behalf of your previous country...

    Unless you are cutting ALL ties with the UK including clearing your bank accounts, selling your house etc etc and can 100% guarantee that you will never ever return I would definitely return the SA and pay what you earn

    Will you EVER return? Where are you going to?

    My gf went to HK in 2001 and came back in 2004. Took my accountant a while to patch things up with HMRC. Though my accountant was open and honest with them they just went into bully boy mode - she owed £2000 (including penalties and interest) and they started demanding £60 per day extra penalty. Accountant said it was very unfair but legal.

    I'm leaving the country soon in about three months. My self assesment is due but I'm wondering whether I should even bother. So what do you guys think will happen if I simply don't submit a return ?
