HMRC letter to check details of NIC's for last Tax year

Hi, wondering if the letter I received this morning is HMRC fishing for some sort of IR35 investigation. Received a letter t check my NIC's for tax year April 2021 to April 2022 as I may be entitled to a refund. Alarm bells!! all this will be on my Self Assessment just look it up that is where I will get the same figures from ! The reason I think they are fishing is that during that Tax year I had two contracts with 2 different clients and Umbrellas and I'm wondering whether they think I've been up to no good (which I haven't). I'm cautious about filling in the form or even contacting HMRC to get further information, should I ignore it and see if I fall through the cracks ?

Nothing to worry about, I had a similar enquiry quite a few years ago. I was paying UK NIC's on a very low UK salary whilst working in Luxembourg to avoid paying insurance there and they wanted to give me a refund.

There is however an annual maximum limit on Class 1 Primary NIC, and therefore anyone in such a situation may be entitled to a refund of excess contributions.

Without seeing the context or the written word it sounds a little odd to me. HMRC phishing or a scam phishing. What are 'HMRC' asking you to provide?

Maybe give them a call or your tax agent, your umbrella may have filed your SATR for you?

If it is genuine and you have a letter you can't ignore and you won't fall through any cracks.

If both contracts where with an umbrella this isn't an IR35 investigations (it's irrelevant as both contracts should have been PAYE because you were working via umbrellas)
