Do hookers give receipts?

Don't know about receipts, but although they are happy to get picked up in the city, you have to go elsewhere to do the deed.

I tend to get thank you notes and references, I've never put a hooker through the books.

The question would be... If you lost money in Vegas (perish the thought), would you get a receipt and claim it as legitimate business expenses?
(Actually, even if you won, would you do that?)

That's what I thought. I imagine he means because I can win enough on the poker tables to live for free... but it's still not right lol..

I might have a chat with a guy in Vegas about a job and spend a week there. All expenses paid week on the company in the City of Sin. Happy days....

I'll probably be going abroad to talk about a possible work that I might be doing. My only expense is flights as I can stay with friends but instead of staying 1-2 days I decided to stay for about a week people I know. It will take about a week.. Can I claim this as an expense (tickets only)?

Yes. Get the people you know to invoice you for your accommodation, and you should be fine. I've done this myself without issue from HMRC - long time ago though!

I believe you can claim entertainment, but it isn't tax deductible. Check with your accountant.

There are different rules on overseas entertainment hut I doubt they will help.

Strictly staying with friends and extending the trip renders the expenses questionable anyway due to the duality of purpose.

I would put it through personally and argue the point in any subsequent inspection.
