    Yes. Get the people you know to invoice you for your accommodation, and you should be fine. I've done this myself without issue from HMRC - long time ago though!

    I believe you can claim entertainment, but it isn't tax deductible. Check with your accountant.

    There are different rules on overseas entertainment hut I doubt they will help.

    Strictly staying with friends and extending the trip renders the expenses questionable anyway due to the duality of purpose.

    I would put it through personally and argue the point in any subsequent inspection.
