It turns out you can't develop iPhone apps on OS X Tiger - Leopard is the minimum

So I've just popped up to the Apple Store and got myself a copy of Snow Leopard

i haven't upgraded to the latest leopard yet. might do that at the w/e. it hasn't been too stable since i loaded vm ware. keeps unexpectedly shutting down and giving strange screen settings.
