It's a model that should work, and works in theory, but I need to get some data for it so I'm spending a fair amount of my time on the phone to DoD in the US, NATO / ISAF in Kabul and MoD CTC at Porton Down asking for data.

The scary thing is that it's designed specifically to work in Afghanistan so every time there's a death by IED in Afghanistan I think bugger but it's a double-edged sword: if there's an IED found (whether detonated or not) it adds to the dataset I need.

I doubt I'll ever get to work on anything quite so commendable as that during my career. When you hear of deaths due to these devices then I guess it's important to focus on the positive effect that your work can have - if you can glean something/anything useful from an IED encounter and put that to use saving lives then that is something. I wish you the very best of luck with it.
