I discovered tonight that I'm not where I thought I was, phonetically
When the pimp first contacted me he pronounced it "Yay-don", and I fell into the trap of believing that he knew - well, not so much what he was talking about, but how he was talking it <- a smiley for every circumstance
Talking to Richard, the landlord of the pub, tonight I realised that it's pronounced "Yee-dun".
I must correct my mental phoneme map of the placename
We were discussing the shockingly chilly westerly that was blowing off the Pennines last night. He pointed out that "Yee-dun Airport" was the highest airport in the land, and as a result of the strong winds hereabouts, has the highest incidence of planes being diverted to other airports because it's too windy to attempt to land
Outside Yeadon, it's known as Leeds-Bradford International Airport rather than Yeadon Airport; so if you're ever trying to fly back to the UK in a hurry, and the first available flight goes there, you may want to reconsider after checking the weather forecast hereabouts.
Luckily, the BBC (in association with the Met Office) regards hereabouts as an entity unto itself weatherwise, so hereabouts has its own weather forecastComment
