I think the PM has now got himself into an awkward position - he said everybody in the team could have a say in who they brought in, as a result of the contractor they had before Christmas having been a dead loss. I think this guy was the one who bore the brunt of that particular fiasco.
So it's probably now impossible to get anybody who will meet his standards, yet the PM would have to say "OK, your opinion no longer counts" and overrule him, which would cause bad feelings in the team.
