I struggle with technology and come to the conclusion I have become old and stupid. Last night I spent a couple of hours with a mate who is tearing his hair out maintaining a community web site. He cannot get it to work with IE and Firefox* correctly. He wittered on about PHP syntax errors and downloaded script incompatibilities while I reminisced about how easy and fun it was to write defensive, secure, robust, efficient COBOL in a multi-user, n-tier database environment with fail-over and redundant mirroring all built into our hand-crafted libraries.

So I feel all useless and decrepit.

Then I read:

So it's not just me then? Technology really has become crap.
