I was thinking of having quite a bit of flash stuff on my PlanB website (when I get it re-done by a professional rather than the cobbled together piece that it nearly is now)

A couple of reasons. Mainly it is not friendly to search engines - but secondly it can be huge if not done well. It is also not "accessibility" friendly in a lot of cases. (see here)

Don't get me wrong - it has its place - like VF says: sparing use.

As HC says one of the main issues is that it isn't SEO friendly, and Flash intensive sites can be sluggish and unwieldly if not developed well.

Ok I'm not a web person, developer or anything like that so I can't offer an opinion that's borne from any real experience...

..however,

when I visit a site, I want to be able to navigate there as quickly as possibly. I don't want any silly music, any animations (unless it is specifically a media orientated site) or anything else that slows me down. Badly designed sites with crappy information architecture get on my nerves.

Lots of people just add cheap tweening and other effects because they think it makes their site look cool, but usually it detracts from the purpose of the site.

I'm sure NF will add something that makes more sense.

One of my mates is a designer on the index page she's got an option for Flash and non-flash maybe you could have the best of both worlds?
