Missed a few more pages, but I've found a more efficient gap-finding query now - it was in the comments to the original server-killing one (which, FYI, took a couple of minutes to execute on my dual-core laptop and had the fans whirring away like crazy).Comment

I just ran it again, out of curiosity - almost nine minutes with mysqld at close to 100% CPU, although it was very nicely balanced 50-50 between the two cores, leaving the machine perfectly responsive
